5 Healthy Eating Resolutions Anyone Can Keep

As the new year approaches, here are some healthy New Year’s resolutions anyone can keep. Health is almost always at the top of the list, but it can be tough to cut out your favorite foods, run a mile a day or even give up a not-so-savory habit. These healthy choices are things almost anyone can do and manage to keep for the year. Simple and easy, these New Year’s resolutions are perfect for anyone on any budget, at any age, in any location.

1. Drink More Water

Everyone says they will drink more water each year, but not everyone succeeds. This is, in fact, one of the easiest healthy eating New Year’s resolutions you can manage. There are numerous ways to carry water with you all the time. Whether you use a tumbler with lid and straw, Tervis Tumbler or a Kleen Kanteen, you can carry your water around easily. If you don’t like plain water, you can slice fruit and add to a fruit infuser to flavor your water naturally without added sugar.

2. Eat Breakfast Daily

It is important to always eat breakfast. Not only does it help fuel your body after a long night without any food, it will help you to curb your appetite throughout the day. Eating a healthy breakfast with vitamin-rich foods (like our Blueberry Quinoa) will fuel your body for a long day ahead of you. It is especially helpful in keeping you from over-eating at other meals.

3. Stop Skipping Meals

While many people limit or skip meals to help lose weight, this is actually doing more harm than good. Your body burns calories throughout the day and requires refueling. When you are not fueling your body regularly (every 3-5 hours), your body may start storing fat instead of burning it. When it is in fear of not being fed again, it will automatically slow down your metabolism to provide your body with fuel for later.

4. Substitute Meats

This simple change in your cooking habits can be a huge step toward a healthy eating New Year’s resolution you can actually keep this year. Ground turkey and ground chicken are both lower in fat and calories, have great flavor and adapt easily into most of your recipes. They are perfect for burgers, spaghetti, tacos and many traditional hamburger dishes. The best part? Your family won’t even notice the change.

5. Share Meals

Portions in restaurants are almost always much larger than you need. Split your meal with a friend, your spouse or simply ask for a to-go box when they bring out your meal. You can save a lot of calories, still enjoy some of your favorite foods and not feel guilty. It’s also a great way to save money if you are going out to eat regularly with your spouse.

These healthy New Year’s resolutions truly are the kind anyone can keep. Work on including healthier habits this year so that next years resolutions will be even easier to manage.
